About Us
The Hand & Upper Extremity Center
Welcome to Hand Rehabilitation Specialists (HRS) — a therapist-owned private practice with over 45 years of experience specializing in the treatment of conditions affecting the hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, and upper extremities.
At HRS, we are dedicated to providing personalized care and comprehensive rehabilitation to help you regain strength, mobility, and function—so you can get back to the activities that matter most.
Our collaborative team of Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists shares a passion for improving lives through expert, compassionate care. We are proud to have Certified Hand Therapists (CHTs) on staff—clinicians with advanced training and expertise in upper limb rehabilitation. With over 100 years of combined experience, our team works closely together to develop individualized treatment plans tailored to your unique needs and goals.
As a therapist-owned practice, we offer a level of personal commitment and continuity of care that larger organizations often can’t match. Whether you’re recovering from an acute injury or managing a chronic condition, you can count on us to guide and support you every step of the way.

Our Legacy
Founded in 1977 by Anne England, HRS was one of the first private practice hand therapy clinics in California. In the same year, the American Society of Hand Therapists was founded, marking the beginning of a transformative era for the field of hand therapy. Since then, HRS has continued to grow, with a history rich in innovation and achievement.
Our practice has been a pioneer in the field, with several of our therapists being among the first to earn the prestigious Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) designation in 1991. As the years went by, our team expanded and took on new challenges, growing our clinic to include multiple locations, and establishing a reputation as a leader in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation.
In 2004, after the passing of our founder, Anne England, HRS continued to thrive under the leadership of Laurie Roundtree and Heidi Bowers-Dutra. Their dedication to patient care, combined with their clinical expertise, ensured that HRS remained a trusted name in the field. Today, under the leadership of Dr. Adrienne Hofmann, PT, DPT, CHT, we continue our commitment to providing expert care and carrying on the legacy of our founders.
